TUCKPOINTING PORTFOLIO

Exposure to moisture — not to mention repeated thawing and freezing of many Chicago Winters — can cause mortar joints between bricks to crack. Tuckpointing is the process of grinding out and replacing the joints. It prevents further damage to joints and bricks. It can prevent leaking, too.

In the past tuckpointing ( or tuck pointing)was considered part of the bricklaying trade, developed in the late 18th Century in England.  It is now something of a specialty, not forgotten, but still kind of rare among the trades.

Riteway Brick’s tuckpointing specialists can repair your crumbling brick to look almost like new again, protecting your home from more damage for years to come.  We’re your local tuck pointing specialists, serving La Grange, Stickney, Oak Park, Berwyn, Cicero and all surrounding Chicagoland communities.

Historical Lemont Tuckpoint Restoration…

The owner of this historic landmark in Lemont was pleased with our tuckpointing restoration work—as was the local historical society. The job involved typical tuck pointing work, such as grinding out mortar joints and washing the brick. But this project had a few historic twists, too. We used pieces of the original mortar, as well as old photographs, as references. We then matched the new mortar as closely as possible to the original. In addition, we paid careful attention to the antique sign in front of the building. For that, we utilized a delicate cleaning process. This project is a great representation of our attention to detail and historical accuracy.

Riverside Tuckpointing…

One of the mortar joints on this home was extremely worn and washed out. We ground all the mortar joints ½ to ¾ inches in depth. Then we chemically cleaned the entire home. (The customer was shocked by the new, clean look.) Next we tuckpointed the entire house, striking in mortar joints to return it to its original condition.

Honesty means estimating accurately and being up front with you. It means telling you when a job is a repair or a teardown, regardless of our profit margin on the particular type of work.

There are times when honesty is not the easiest route. Sometimes we may decline potential business that would bring in a nice check but simply doesn’t fit our abilities. (If we said honesty was always fun, we wouldn’t be honest.)
